Conistone Hostel improve accessibility

Conistone Hostel Management Group is pleased to share with you our biggest project success to date.

Our latest initiative started way back in July 2022 when we engaged with Helen Firth at the Craven Disability Forum, who visited the hostel to provide advice and guidance on improving accessibility for our much valued visitors.

Approval for our accessibility related works was sought through the Trustees of the Yorkshire West Methodist Church District, along with Yorkshire Dales National Park (YDNP) Planning.  Once approved, our team started to apply for grants to fund the initiative.  We were delighted when we received a phone call from The Morrison’s Foundation in October 2023 confirming that they would provide the required funding to support our plans to improve accessibility.

Upon the receipt of monies, our team busily made preparations and engaged Matt and his team at MJL Groundworks & Civils to plan out the works and the corresponding design at the hostel.  Due to ongoing works and bookings at the Hostel, we had to wait until November 2024 for the work to be undertaken.  We are now delighted to say that this valuable addition to the hostel has now been completed. The photos below on the left and in the middle show the work being completed, with the photo on the right showing the completed works.

Conistone Hostel is, of course, much indebted to “good friends and neighbours” for their kindness and generosity along the way. Without their much valued guidance and support our ambition to improve accessibility could not have been realised.  In particular, our debt of gratitude to Helen from The Craven Disability Forum and Janet Perry from YDNP for their support, advice and guidance.  We owe a HUGE thank you to The Morrison’s Foundation for their kindness and seeing the value in our accessibility plans.  Needless to say, without their thoughtfulness and generosity of this funding, this initiative simply could not have happened.  And finally, to Matt and the guys at MJL Groundworks and Civils; our delivery partner, for their guidance, supportive approach and unswerving commitment to make our vision for improved accessibility at the hostel a reality.
