Community initiatives help fund improvements in Oakwood

Oakwood Church in Roundhay is a partnership between Roundhay St John’s C of E and Roundhay Methodist Church. We serve the local community which uses our premises extensively, for example, The Stroke Club, RVS Support for the Elderly, a Toddler Group, a Community Café, a weekly Luncheon Club for older people, Scouts, Guides, Cubs and Brownie Groups.

We are committed to improving our energy efficiency and a recent survey highlighted the need to replace and upgrade the insulation in the hall roof space. This is the hall where most of the community activity takes place. We heard about the Wickes Community Programme and met with the store manager on Roundhay Road, Karl Fieldhouse. He kindly agreed to donate £200 of loft insulation towards our project, from their Community Initiatives Programme.

Many of our users are now cyclists and so we are providing a cycle parking facility as part of our green agenda. In addition to the funding from Wickes, Morley Glass have donated a generous £500 from their GreenVision Fund towards the bike parking facility and loft insulation works. We feel very thankful for the kindness shown to Oakwood Church!
