Following the display of ceramic artist Mo Schofield’s maquette at Ben Rhydding Methodist Church, the full-size version of From Rubble Reborn, is now on show at Bradford Cathedral until 28th November. In response to Jyoti Sahi’s Dalit Madonna, this evocative sculpture invites reflection on birth, hope, and humanity across borders. You can encounter this work in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit as part of Bradford Cathedral’s Global Connections season.

Workshop: Our Story, Our Song:
Shelley Wilson (Creative Arts Coordinator) from Lakeside Creative Arts Centre writes about the recent visit of the President of the Methodist Conference.
“Poverty Matters” event unites Methodists, MPs, and those with lived experience
Local Methodists, two local MPs1, Kerry Tankard, our District Chair, Rev. Smitha Prasadam, Bishop of Huddersfield, and representatives from voluntary organisations gathered at Huddersfield Mission to affirm that “Poverty Matters”. Crucially, the event centred on the voices of people with lived experience of poverty.
The event focused on promoting social justice, moving beyond crisis support to address systemic issues. During two roundtables, attendees heard directly from frontline workers and those affected by poverty today. Paul Bridges, CEO of the Huddersfield Mission, led a roundtable thinking about poverty in an urban context and Paul Jones, CEO of the Denby Dale Centre, led the second roundtable looking at poverty in rural settings.
Key themes from the roundtables included:
· The need for more compassionate processes from the statutory sector
· A lack of accessible, affordable housing
· The cost of living crisis and
· Rural isolation and inadequate public transport.
Huddersfield circuit’s “Let’s End Poverty” banner took centre stage at the public event, held after the roundtables. This offered visitors a chance to learn about local voluntary work, explore statistics developed by the Joint Public Issues Team (JPIT), and have a go at a craftivism activity. Attendees were challenged to respond personally in a variety of ways.
Attendees were invited to write to their MP using postcards featuring the “Let’s End Poverty” banner. Postcards have been distributed to eight different MPs from across West Yorkshire, a fantastic result.
Paul Bridges, CEO of Huddersfield Mission, said, “Poverty Matters because it diminishes all of us… In a very practical way, we have highlighted God’s preference for the poor.”
